Did you know they are illegal in many states. In Georgia, I called the attorney general’s office – who is working hard on stricter laws to go after these companies even when they are based out of California – and she sent a letter (on Attorney General Letter head) asking them to Cease and Desist.
She sent me a copy and they never bothered me again
Check with your attorney general’s office. or google your state’s websites about it – that’s how I knew my state was working on legislation against these predators.
just like overdrafts, call the United Way and get free groceries a couple of times and pick and choose what is edible like a lot of other people have to do,and get some household items that you may need
I used to work for Check N Go. I know that alot of these payday loan companies are a part of the CFSA, and therefore follow CFSA guidelines. If you read the fine lines, they cannot prosecute you for not paying back the loan. It will go through a collection agency, but that’s where it stops. If you do want to pay back what you owe, you also have the right to an extended payment plan. Check to see if the payday loan company you are with, is a member of the CFSA.
STOP TAKING PAYDAY LOANS, GET THAT SECOND JOB, USE IT TO PAY YOUR BALANCE OFF, AND NEVER, EVER,EVER TAKE OUT ANOTHER ONE AGAIN! You cannot pay off a debt by taking out more debt, that’s all.Who do you think you are,the US government? Seriously, take yourself out of the loop, bite the bullet and do what you already know in your heart you need to do. Been there, done that! It’s not easy, definitely not fun,but 100% effective.
First of all, stay away from the payday loans. They charge ridiculous interest, and you’ll always be behind if you use them. You need to make a budget and stick to it. If you have to take a second job for awhile, do it. Find things that you can do without for a week. Pack lunch instead of going out, for example. Pay attention to what you spend money on. Do your really need a latte from Starbucks every morning for $ 4.00? Brew your coffee at home. All that stuff adds up. The first place to cut is your entertainment budget. If you go to clubs, etc., stop for a month or two. You can save a few hundred dollars a month by not buying drinks, paying cover charges, etc. Once you’re out of debt, start thinking about a savings account. Good luck to you!
Some real good answers here, but first question, do you own a house? Did you put up collateral? Have you asked them for a stop interest request, or checked with the local states attorney office for help? If all else fails then file a bankruptcy petition. You merely have to have one on file to immediately stop the interest. If you do it right, it would take six months to actually go into court. You can use this time to pay the loan, interest free, and not loose a thing. Then vacate the petition.
