I have a credit card judgment on my credit report filed 2001. Do the same rules apply for judgement as debt reporting on the credit report therefore it should be removed 7 years from the date filed. BTW- I haven’t paid this judgment. Also have heard mixed things in terms of who to contact to have judgment removed. Should I first go to the credit bureaus for them to verify or should I go to the law collection agency?
Thanks
For unpaid judgments it is actually 7 years OR the Statute of Limitations for the Judgment in your State, which ever is longer. So for example if you are in Alabama the judgment can remain for 20 years.
The link below will give you the SOL for judgments by state.
You must paya nd then make sure you get a letter from the collecters, etc stating that they received your payment and took it OFF your credit report! Very Important! So wj=hen you make a paymebnt arrangement make sure they agree to do that!
The judgment will have to be paid – you owe the money. Once you have paid the judgment, it will show that is it a Paid Judgment on your credit report….for seven years from the date of Satisfaction.
