Contact your lender and ask them how to get out of default. If you do not know who your lender is call 1-800-4FEDAID and they will give you a number to call.
If it is a federal loan you can usually do what is called “Loan Rehabilitation” where you make about 9 consecutive, on-time and reasonable payments and they pay off the old loan and issue you a new loan. This new loan is not in default so you can get federal aid again.

If I respond to this question and copy-paste a web site link that took me 2 seconds to find on Google, but really doesnt answer the question I can get a few points by default. It will make me feel important and smart.
I dont answer peoples questions, I just want to waste their time with a lame answer and get a few points because the more points I have makes me feel like I matter in this world, even thought I dont.
