My friends, a very young couple, were in the same situation. What they did is something called a no-doc mortgage. They don’t ask where you got money, your history, your credit, etc. and you don’t tell. I am not sure how to locate one but do know it exists b/c they have a very nice three bedroom in New Jersey.

Correct = many simply take your money and deliver nothing but excuses .. even the ‘legitimate’ ones are mainly ‘consultants’ who will ‘advise’ you to take out a some mega-expensive loan that pays them the maximium comission (their fees are added to the loan = so they get paid even if you default on the loan)
Go visit your local CAB (Citizens Advise Bureau) or check out the Government web site ..

In 2000 there was not a law that allowed past debts of 7 years to stay on your credit report. You should speak with the credit agencies first to see if it can be removed. If it cannot be removed ask the company if they would remove the account from your credit if you are able to pay some of all of it off. Lastly debts that old may not weigh as heavily as new good debt.
There are ways to improve you credit in the short term by opening accounts with small limits and paying them off in full every month. However, if your credit habits have not improved you should not try this and continue to harass the credit card company until you get what you want.
